Urban Local Government and Environmental Management in Bangladesh

This book was an attempt to identify the role of urban local government in environmental management in Bangladesh. It also identified the problems of managing the environment and critical areas where improvements are needed. The book will be useful for those who are involved and interested in improving local government role in environmental development. The services rendered by the Paurashava, an urban local government authority, ensure a clean and healthy environment. But mismanagement of these services lead to a dreadful life and a threat to the environment. Urban local governments are the front line organizations, which deal with all types of social, political, economic and environmental problems, and they should devise more effective ways to ensure healthy environment. Increased level of management capacity of every Paurashava is a must to that end. The Paurashava requires proper management, Utilization of local resources, people oriented leadership and participation of people alongside development of the elements of the management of the Paurashavas.
