For DS Albie Edwards, the threads from each investigation lead back to Josie Jefferies. Josie is a young single mother from a local estate who is struggling to better her life and that of her son Joshua.

When Joshua's playmate, Mitchell, is attacked during a game of hide 'n' seek and his mother's body is found in a copse in local woodland, Josie soon realises it is more than a coincidence and her anxiety becomes an intruder in her own mind.

As the killings escalate, Josie becomes a person of interest to the police and the only link between all of the victims. With each death, Josie begins to question her building feelings of paranoia, while others question her innocence.

Attempting to escape the ever growing criticism, Josie turns to social worker, Olivia Devine, for help and she reluctantly agrees to give her support. However, when Olivia realises that DS Edwards is leading the investigation she starts to regret offering her help.

Five years earlier Olivia was involved a turbulent relationship with the DS Edwards. It ended his complete annihilation of Olivia's professional character, in court. Since that court appearance, the couple had been dissociated.

While the killer avoids detection, Albie's team focus on assembling the puzzle of Josie's past in an attempt to crack the case. In the meantime, Albie's investigations bring him face to face with his own past demons and his lingering guilt.
