Following his accomplishments at St. Ciaran's College, Aidan Lonsdale has earned an internship for the FBI. He arrives on day one, and is bitterly disappointed to find he's supposed to be investigating white collar crimes. He thinks that's beneath him. He wants to tackle the kinds of cases the FBI are always cracking on TV: conspiracies, terror plots, murders.

Aidan gets his wish when the body of a rising star in the California justice system is found on Ocean Beach. But he soon finds that solving that case only leaves him with more questions.
