The Goodness of St. Rocque

Clare Hartill is a brilliant, commanding teacher at a private all-girls boarding school: the undisputed queen of her own small kingdom. But her sense of total control is disrupted when Alywnne Durand, a 19 year old with no formal training, enters her domain and begins to teach.

Clare is drawn to Alywnne's innocence, her brightness and openness--traits that the secretive and manipulative Clare lacks. Alwynne is drawn to Clare's intelligence and sophistication. The two women fall headlong into an all-consuming friendship, as Clare's jealous nature slowly pulls Alwynne away from her friends, her students, and her family; anyone, in fact, who is not Clare Hartill.

But their relationship is tested when the vulnerable and exceptionally gifted Louise enters their orbit. Louise worships Clare--seeing her as a replacement mother-figure--and will go to any lengths to win Clare's affection.
