The Elephant Buttons

Six year old Polly visits her Grandmother who lives on a remote farm in the African bush-veld. It is the first time Polly is away from her family, and she deems the visit an adventure. During that first night, in a strange bed, her bravado is shattered by the noises made by the wild animals roaming outside in the dark and she imagines a leopard sneaking in to lie under her bed. Grandmother Nor answers Polly's) whimpers and soothes the frightened child by saying, "I too, was scared when I first came to live here, for Wales is my home country. It is a land where no African animals live. All I could do was use my imagination and call on my Welsh fairies to protect me. "Believing is seeing", old Nor explains. "I believe in my faeries and that may seem far-fetched to most people, but because I believe them to be here with me, I do not fear the wild animals any more. "This is the basis of my tale. Woven into all of it is Polly's quest to find out more about a being called "You-know-who".
