The Awakening Conscience of Indian Journalism

The nineteenth century is a remarkable period in the Indian history with its constructive, elegant and renascent culture in the socio-cultural atmosphere of not only in Bengal but also of India. Where the Italian renaissance is famous for its extraordinary and outstanding achievement in the field of art, 19th century Bengal preserved its triumphs in its place of literature. In literature Bengal's position became even more solid during the time of Rabindranath. Everything was overshadowed by advent of the great poet in the cultural scenario of Bengal. Ramananda Chattopadhyay was a product of this renascent socio-cultural milieu. His two journals Prabasi and Modern Review were not only two journals but those were his platforms for experiencing his nationalistic and rational ideas. These journals possessed all the excellent characteristics, like awareness of the day to day happenings, perfectness of news etc. The Modern Review and Prabasi became, with years, became extremely necessary for the contemporary thinking of Indian political leaders. These journals covered almost every imaginative subject and went fully packed with information.
