Taking Sides

This title presents debating skills for English language students. One of the most important skills any university student can learn is to take a position on a topic and defend it. This type of debating, as opposed to formal debating skills, is the focus of the second edition of ""Taking Sides: Speaking Skills for College Students"".This textbook encourages students to form opinions and exchange ideas on important issues. The text contains units on philosophy (distributive justice), law, ethics, psychology, business negotiation, and linguistics. Within these sections, students are given practice in how to state opinions, compromise, build consensus, speak persuasively, understand group dynamics, write business memos, make presentations, engage in debate, and negotiate.
