Slavic Studies: Vol.1

This publication offers a bibliographic guide to the study of Slavic-speaking countries, which comprise what is estimated to be the largest linguistic group in Europe - some 230 million people. Students of this vast but poorly understood region should now be able to locate reference works on numerous topics both general and highly specific through the special arrangement of "Slavic Studies". The nearly 5,000 entries in this work, the vast majority of which are annotated, are primarily broken down by country: Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Poland, the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia and the Balkans. The citations are then ordered by subject in each section, with a Library of Congress subject heading attached to every entry. Thus, in a given country's section, the user can quickly find works under such listings as "Agriculture - Cereals", "Byzantine Studies - Catalogue", and "Comintern - Biography", regardless of his or her awareness of specific titles or authors. Indexes to titles and authors also are included for those seeking a particular publication. In compiling this guide, Murlin Croucher, Area Specialist in Slavic studies at Indiana University, has examined the holdings of key institutions throughout Eastern Europe as well as in the United States. His annotations describe the features of the cited works and mention any shortcomings of which the user needs to be aware.
