Second Shot

I'm down but I'm fighting my way to the top again. No way am I letting a crippling knee injury or my wife (finally) leaving me break me. I didn't get to the NHL by giving up and I'm not doing it now. Success is the best revenge, after all, and I plan to succeed and then some. I've got to show my kids how you get back in the game.

It doesn't hurt my recovery that I have a sweet-as-pie southern belle in the form of our team doctor looking out for me. Nicole Stewart is stubborn and smart and apparently has a few secrets of her own. But she's also a fighter, and she won't stop fighting for me to heal and get my career back on track.

This isn't an opposites attract situation-this is a stay away from the woman who is way too good for you, you washed up grumpy bastard kind of a situation. Then I go and do something so impulsive that it puts her future in jeopardy. Now we have to work together to save her reputation, and I can't exactly say it's a hardship.

Because I'm starting to see how a woman who looks at me like Nicole does could give a guy like me a second shot at true love.
