This study examined the role of teachers' colleges in enhancing teaching profession in Iringa Region, Tanzania. Findings of the study revealed that despite of teachers' colleges establishing practices for promoting effective teaching/learning and enhancing teachers' ethics, like admitting student-teachers with required qualification, observing routine and college timetable, enforcing integration of ICT during teaching and competence-based teaching methods. the practices were not effective due to less commitment in implementing practices and due to many challenges tutors face, like, inadequate funds for running colleges, inadequate teaching/learning resources, few competent tutors with pedagogical skills and in integrating ICT in teaching/learning, inadequate time for extra-curriculum activities, like sports and games, physical activities, plus lack of commitment in doing guidance and counselling. Due to all these, teachers' colleges have less impact in enhancing teaching profession. The researchers recommend for provision of adequate funds for purchasing teaching/learning resources and equipping tutors with competence-based teaching/learning methods.
