The state of the contemporary world enforces on us a need for reflection on the mission of Christianity in the postmodern world, especially in western societies. The urgency is underscored by the fact that we can in this environment see the Christian message in its historical continuity from the Apostolic Age until now. What is more it is in western societies that we can see with some clarity the cultural consequences of the interaction of the Christian message with the society particularly in re-shaping the cultural forms and values of the society. It can be argued that western culture was transformed by its contact with the Christian message just as there is equal validity in the notion that the pristine Christian message of the Apostolic Age was also transformed (some may even say transliterated or distorted) by the interaction with western cultures and western societies. The hope is that we may in the process side-step the path that led to the Christian cul-de-sac of contemporary Christianity in Europe and North America. The most important challenge is to return the Church to its Head and Proprietor, Christ the Redeemer of mankind.
