Re-visioning Family Therapy

Moving beyond the immediate family structure, this resource challenges existing definitions of "home", "health" and "family" to provide a more inclusive and broader perspective for practicing therapy. Integrating issues of race, culture, class and gender, chapters offer new ways of working with clients based on a revised understanding of society, history, and the life experiences of both the client and the therapist. Topics covered include the effects of racism, white privilege, working with immigrants and refugees, interracial couples and spirituality. Throughout, personal stories bring out aspects of family history that have gone unarticulated, and focus on the specific needs of diverse clients.
