This book documents the medical and scientific history of in vitro fertilization from the late 1930s to the present. The opening chapter reviews infertility throughout the ages; the remaining eight chapters cover IVF's introduction to the United States, its significance for reproductive medicine, ovulation induction with gonadotrophins, LHRH analogs, cryopreservation, oocyte donation, and intracytoplasmic sperm injection. The contributing authors are leaders in reproductive medicine from the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Israel.
