I was at Kanyakumari beach on a wonderful morning two or three years ago to write this novel ‘Pandi Madhavi’. It was a time when my heart, memory, and senses were soaking together in the majesty of the scene where the red rays spread across the bottom corner of the blue screen sea. The ocean, with its waves of blue glass, and its shore, its shore, the morning drum, and the sounding temple of the goddess Kumarit, made thousands of flowers bloom in my mind. Somewhere in this part of the body of water that has now become the South Sea, Tamil civilization was born, grew up, lived and died. The historical forests of South Pandit Seema, where the virgin goddess Kunra stood with her virgin kolam and performed penance, all came to mind and blossomed. On that morning at Kanyakumari beach, the desire arose in my mind to recreate the context of a prosperous country in a historical novel, referred to as ‘Southland’, ‘Outer Country’ - ‘Nanjil Nadu’. For a while after that the longing melted in my heart and turned into a little penance. I read many books with that meditation.
