Nigeria has come a long way as a nation. The resilience of the country is an understatement, Nigeria has been bend, twisted, stretched but it did not break like other Africa nations. Leadership crisis in Nigeria is simply due lack of a true leader, decades of corruption and mismanagement especially under military rule (Nigerian leaders are pre-occupied to loot the treasury at both local and national level, tweak the rule of law rather than finding direction on how the country will be prosperous and the needs of common fellow Nigerians). In addition, poor and frequently changing policies and programmes lack of clear vision and commitment to development and a citizenry that submit to the culture of patronage are the major contributions to Nigeria's past failure to improve the economy. This study investigates the leadership style of selected Nigerian leaders from 1966 through 2014 by examining the leadership attributes of each of the leaders such as Yakubu Gowon, Murtala Mohammed, Olusegun Obasanjo, Shehu Shagari, Muhammadu Buhari, Babangida, Sanni Abacha, Umaru Yaradua, and Goodluck Jonathan to explain the effect of each leaders attributes and leadership styles.
