Although he did not speak, he exuded a tremendous aura which made me want to hold him close and probe his silence. I often had the impression that he wore his silence like a chain that bound him to a grief we could never completely reach or even understand. My fleeting memories of the ailing poet grew to an almost obsessive desire to understand his personality through the various objects and manuscripts I collected throughout my life. Nazrul's works have often being taken up for dissertations and scholarly speculations in many books and journals since his death. However, this book is more of a personal approach to understand the towering presence behind an astonishing corpus of one of the most influential Bengali poets of the twentieth century, hence the format of a photo album. My object here is to, primarily, inform the newer, English and Bengali - reading generation who have seldom had access to such a wealth of material that would inevitably end up shedding more light on his works.
