The aim of study was to Design and Evaluation of Miconazole Nitrate Microsponge for Sustained Release Topical Drug Delivery System by Quasi-Emulsion Solvent diffusion Method. The average size of microsponge formulation is less than 300m. So it has good patient compliance. Microsponge formulation has ability to improve bioavailability & solubility of poorly soluble drug. The Miconazole Nitrate microsponge were prepared by using Eudragit RS100 as a polymer, PVA as an emulsifying agent, TEC as a plasticizer, DCM and methanol used as solvent. Optimization of Microsponge was done by using Central Composite Design.The optimized batch of Miconazole Nitrate loaded microsponge was evaluated by Particles size, shape and internal structure by SEM. Compatibility was evaluated by FTIR of optimized batch. In vitro dissolution study of miconazole nitrate microsponge confirmed that it gives sustained release effect up to 12 hour. Kinetic models of formulation confirmed that, it follows zero order kinetic. The optimized batch of microsponge was incorporated in to carbopol 934 gel, and it showed desired drug content, in vitro diffusion, spreadability, pH and viscosity as per standard criteria.
