Masculinity Goes to School

In this study, the authors offer an overview of the issues surrounding boys and education, analyzing what is actually happening with boys in the school system, and how this can be understood. They argue that popular constructions of masculinity affect boys in all areas of their lives: at home; at school; at work; and at leisure. Illustrated with examples and quotes from both teachers and students, this work provides insights into issues affecting boys at school, such as literacy, sport, bad behaviour, sexuality, race and ethnicity, and popular culture. It also looks at programmes and approaches to working with boys which have been successful in schools.
