Personal identification means determination of individuality of a person .Day by day there are more and more number of systems which are being developed which provide service based on the identity of the person, hence the importance of personal identification is growing. Some of the more common means of personal identification are based on personal identification numbers, passports, access cards, driving licenses etc. But these items can be misplaced, forgotten or manipulated easily. Another more reliable system of identifying a person based on human traits is biometrics. Identity of a person can be established using various physical characteristics of the human body. Human external ear pattern is one such characteristic feature. The anthropometric measurements of both the ears of each subject were taken. The measurements of each ear of every person was compared with the rest of them including the contra lateral ear of the same person to prove bilateral asymmetry.
