JOHN PERCEVAL (1683–1748) was the 1st Earl of Egmont, who, alongside Ogelthorpe and other associates, planned and oversaw the colony of Georgia. ROBERT G. MCPHERSON was a historian of the colony of Georgia as well as the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British Isles. He published Theory of Higher Education in Nineteenth-Century England in 1959, three years before editing The Journal of the 1st Earl of Egmont. LEE ANN CALDWELL is a professor of history and director of the Center for the Study of Georgia History at Augusta University. She is author of Georgia: Its Heritage and Its Promise and sits on the editorial board of the Georgia Historical Quarterly.
