The purpose of writing this book is to explain the importance of the traditional power system integrating with emerging technologies like Internet of Things. The conventional power system consisting of generation, transmission and distribution is being operated manually and to make it a smarter system there is a need for communication technologies to develop for safe, secure and reliable smart grids by leveraging the benefits of IoT and Cloud applications. This book introduces IoT and its applications for condition monitoring of generator, transformer to avoid mean time failures of power system equipment which is required timely maintenance. The transformer plays an important role in power transmission and distribution. The condition monitoring of transformer parameters continuously and taking necessary preventive measures can improve its performance significantly. This book presents an IOT based automated system for distribution transformer monitoring using IoT and LoRa.The demand response that varies the consumer patterns of energy usage can improve demand supply balance of utilities. A LabVIEW model is developed to demonstrate the demand response interms of time of use tariff. The increase in energy demand and concern towards environment raises importance for renewable energy sources like solar, wind etc.The monitoring of PV panel parameters for its improved efficiency using IoT is explained in the book with developed LabVIEW model.
