In Situ Thermal Technologies for Site Remediation

This volume covers the state-of-the-art in the field of in situ thermal technologies for site remediation. It begins with a basic review of the thermodynamics of heat transfer and contaminant behaviour in soils, and follows with summaries of data on various soil heating technologies. Technologies covered include: steam injection; radio frequency (RF); joule resistance; passive and active solar heating and hot gas injection. For each technology, actual applications, costs, discussions of advantages and disadvantages and a thorough literature review are provided.
