The mouth is a mirror of health or disease, a sentinel or early warning system. The oral cavity might well be thought as a window to the body because oral manifestations accompany many systemic diseases. In many instances, oral involvement precedes the appearance of other symptom s or lesions at other locations. A detailed clinical examination of oral mucosa of an asymptomatic patient can therefore be the best opportunity for early diagnosis and treatment allowing control over the spread of the disease to the skin and/or other organs.
