Immunofluorescence is an immunohistochemical method used to demonstrate the presence of antigen and antibodies in the tissues or serum. It is an auxiliary diagnostic tool for the autoimmune bullous and inflammatory disorders. It detects the in situ and circulating immune deposits that are involved in the pathogenesis of immunobullous diseases. Immunobullous group of disorders is characterized by the production of antibodies that are directed against various constituents of the molecular apparatus that hold the epithelial cells together or that bind the surface of the epithelium to the underlying connective tissue. This staining technique is used for demonstrating the presence of antibodies bound to antigens in tissues or circulating body fluids. These techniques are essential to supplement clinical findings and histopathology in the diagnosis of immunobullous disorders. This book has covered the technique of immunofluroscence and different findings of bullous disease.
