Identity Zero

The sweltering Nevada desert stretched endlessly in every direction, the scorching sun beating down mercilessly on the lonely desert highway. Nick and Sandra Harris, along with their teenage son Jamie, were making the long drive from Chicago to Los Angeles for a summer vacation. Little did they know the harrowing nightmare that awaited them.After hours on the road, they stopped for a bite at a nondescript roadside diner in the middle of nowhere. Jamie opted to stay in the car, bobbing his head to music on his headphones while his parents went inside. When they returned, their son had vanished without a trace. A cold dread gripped Nick and Sandra's hearts as they frantically searched the diner and parking lot. But Jamie was simply gone, seeming to have vanished into thin air. Frantic, they contacted the local sheriff's department in the small town of Elk County. But Nick immediately sensed something amiss with the sheriff's nonchalant questioning and seeming lack of urgency. Digging deeper, they discovered that two other boys, Jamie's age, had gone missing in recent months; their bodies were eventually discovered far out in the desert. A seasoned detective named Rachel Valdez from Las Vegas, who initially investigated the two boys' deaths, was originally skeptical of Nick's concerns about the sheriff's potential involvement. However, everything changed when a crucial piece of evidence turned up - a scrap of Jamie's clothing stuck in the trunk liner of the sheriff's patrol car.
