This is the story of Henry T Dalrymple who embarks on a journey to find an unknown mysterious treasure and in the process finds himself. Henry T is the best detective in the entire River Dell district. Together, he and his partner, Octavius Sinclair operate a successful Private Investigation service. Nothing unusual about that - except for the fact that Henry T is a mouse. A mouse with a very big ego! The two detectives live in the library at Shangri-La, the country home of Lucentius White, an elderly, enlightened gent who has spent his days combing the earth for what he describes, with a wink, as The Pearl without Price. One day during an adventurous outing to the neighbouring Three Hawks Estate, the two detectives run afoul of the malicious and extremely "plain" Miss Fritzelle, the beloved cat of Lady Isis North. After some creative quick thinking by Henry T, the friends escape certain death by promising to teach the moggie how to speak French (foreign languages being a specialty of Henry T's). During a weekly lesson, Henry and Octavius discover that the kindly Lady Isis and her brother Sir Horus are being threatened by a certain "Anonymous". They must hand over a mysterious Egyptian artefact called the "Eye of Huni" or the good name of their famous dead Egyptologist parents will be destroyed. Much to their surprise, they also discover that the Norths speak the Universal language and can understand all non-human creatures perfectly. Henry T offers his services immediately and with the blessing of Mr White, the strange little band set off for Egypt and the Temple of Thoth in an attempt to find the lost treasure. Of course, on the way puzzles are solved and riddles guessed (usually by Henry who grows more swelled-headed by the day) and every move is monitored by the mysterious shadowy "Anonymous", under orders from his dreaded mistress - Lady Sekhmet, The Destroyer. The Temple is reached with the aid of friendly Bedouin tribesmen and the detectives learn that it is built in the shape of a man with each chamber representing a Chakra point on the body. They also discover that each room presents an appropriate challenge to be overcome before they can move forward. The five friends enter the secret temple but only Henry T and Octavius are permitted to continue to the end. Having braved terrifying traps and tricks, they finally reach the "Eye", to discover it is a portal to other places and times - a sort of time machine- although as Octavius observes "…it was more like going sideways than forward in time…" They are whisked to the future where they meet two scientists who are studying global warming at Uluru in Central Australia. Shockingly, the two are dead ringers for Lady Isis and her brother…. Back in familiar time and place, and bearing the shame of having lost the "Eye", Henry realises that his survival in the quest so far was mostly due to the courage, generosity and self- sacrifice of his fellow adventurers and had very little to do with his cleverness at all. It is a bitter lesson in humility but one he must learn in order to fulfil his true destiny which is to become The Chosen One and save the world from the fiery destruction of Sekhmet and her Shadow People.
