Health-related Water Microbiology

Selected Papers from the 13th IWA Conference on Health-related Water Microbiology (Watermicro2005), held in Swansea, Wales, UK, 4-9 September 2005. The 39 papers in this issue were selected following peer review of the work presented at the 13th conference of the IWA Health-related Water Microbiology Specialist Group. The conference itself sustained the well established tradition of a high-quality programme addressing key areas of current research in health-related microbiology. The selected papers are grouped into the following topics: drinking water aspects and catchment protection; wastewater treatment and its effects on the environment; methods in microbiology; microbe behaviour in the environment; microbial monitoring; and epidemiology and microbial risk assessment. These selected proceedings therefore constitute an extremely valuable reference source for active researchers into all aspects of waterborne microbial diseases, from analytical and monitoring techniques, through treatment processes and disinfection, to epidemiological studies. They will also prove of keen interest to municipal, sanitary and environmental engineers, plant and process designers, operators and managers, and policy-makers and regulators whose work in water supply and sanitation plays a key role in the struggle against bacterial, viral and other microbial diseases.
