Whereas the names Lidice, Oradour-sur-Glane and Babi Jar have all gone down in history as places where Nazi atrocities took place, the mass executions by the Wehrmacht and the SS in Greece during World War II are unfamiliar to most. The same is true for the circumstances occurring during the occupation of Greece. The German occupation authorities followed their orders to rule over Greece without any consideration for the provisions of international law concerning political, economic, and legal rights. In this volume, Anestis Nessou studies the facts of the occupation from the perspective of international law. He considers, for example, how the political and judicial authorities strove to put an end to any attempts to come to terms with the past events. The author also describes in detail the civil actions of Greek victims against the Federal Republic of Germany. The fact that their claims have been denied by the German government right up to the present day is a still smoldering state of affairs with political ramifications. This text is in German.
