Dream dress, perfect wedding day, but in the dystopian world of Kle, no one lives happily ever after. After the grand ceremony, nothing matters anymore. Rules of this nation require the sacrifice of beloved family, friends, and yourself. Sixteen-year-old Mel is trying to change the course of events and not forget who she is. In this story, there is no glass slipper or handsome prince; there is a shoe made of mud and clay offered during the Golden Slipper Ritual and a fianc who brings Mel her death sentence.
