This book is about the characterization of a common pesticide Imidacloprid used by farmers in Uganda to control pests especially, the sugarcane farmers and the oil Palm tree farmers. The study evaluated the environmental fate of imidacloprid after it's application by studying two key parameters: Sorption capacity and persistence rate. Batch sorption experimental method was conducted in the Lab at conditions similar to the one at the field. Degradation experiments were carried out to calculate half lives of the chemical imidacloprid in the selected soil samples. The sorption experiments established that, the pesticide Imidacloprid, has moderate adsorption on the tested soils. The normalized sorption coefficients to organic carbon were evaluated. The results indicate, organic carbon to predominantly control Sorption process of imidacloprid in the studied soils. The calculated half lives from the degradation experiments revealed a low persistence of this pesticide in the tested soils.
