This book is a reflection on the factors contributing to primary school pupils' drop-out in a rural set up of a developing African country. It scrutinizes the efforts invested by stakeholders to retaining pupils in school besides considering weaknesses in the approaches employed by the stakeholders. The reflection is anchored in the reality that although primary school enrolment has improved tremendously worldwide in the last decade, Sub-Saharan Africa still struggles to reduce the phenomenal problem of pupils dropping out of school after enrolment. The problem of school retention is compounded by issues of gender and regional imbalances in development and resource endowment. It concludes that key factors hindering school retention are child labour, pregnancy among girls, poverty, orphanage, lack of parental guidance and negative attitude to schooling.
