When people take more calories than they burn, their bodies store extra calories in the form of fat.But when they keep up taking more and more calories than they burn off, more fats build up in their bodies and eventually lead to a stage where the amount of these body fats can impart an adverse and negative effect on their health and emerge as risk of developing various weight-related health problems. The present study was done in Gujrat city to evaluate the number of overweight and obese individuals and investigate the association of overweight and obesity with increased liver enzymes & Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Females showed greater BMI values as compared to males. Overweight and obese females both showed significant increase in Waist Circumference and Waist to Hip Ratio (WHR).Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) showed no significant increase in obese and overweight individuals. Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and Alkaline Phosphatase were elevated significantly in both overweight males and females. Thus, our observations demonstrate a relation between overweight, obesity, serum liver enzyme activity and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
