Ecclesall

Through a selection of over 200 fascinating old photographs we are given an insight into life in "Ecclesall", as it transformed from a rural in the mid-nineteenth century to the busy suburb of a great industrial city. All aspects of life in the area are illustrated, from the hamlets, to the old highways and byways. Many schools are pictured, including the Pioneering open-air Ecclesall College. Ecclesll people are presented in their many guises, from the May Queen festivals to tennis parties. All of the photographs, collected and researched by the History Society, provide an evocative reminder of a way of life that has gone forever.
