Die sabäischen Inschriften aus Marib

Der Band bietet eine Neubearbeitung sämtlicher sabäischen Inschriften aus dem Stadtgebiet und der näheren Umgebung der sabäischen Hauptstadt Marib [mit Ausnahme der in sich geschlossenen Korpora des ?Awam-Tempels und der altsabäischen Felsinschriften vom Gabal Balaq]. Er umfasst über 700 Texte und Fragmente aus dem Zeitraum vom frühen 1. Jahrtausend v.Chr. bis in die Mitte des 6. Jh. n.Chr., darunter 120 Widmungsinschriften, 60 juristische Texte und 130 Bauinschriften. Die teils sehr verstreut publizierten Texte werden hier auf dem aktuellen Forschungsstand in einheitlicher Transliteration und komplett neu erarbeiteten Übersetzungen präsentiert und philologisch kommentiert. Umfangreiche Indices zu Personen, Orten und Gottheiten runden den Band ab.

This volume offers a new analytical study of all Sabaean inscriptions from the Sabaean capital of Marib and surrounding areas [with the exception of the self-contained corpora from the temple of ?Awam and the ancient Sabaen rock inscriptions from the Gabal Balaq]. It comprises over 700 texts and fragments, covering the period from the early 1st millennium B.C. to the middle of the 6th century A.D. and including amongst others 120 votive inscriptions, 60 judicial texts and 130 building inscriptions. These texts, scattered across a variety of publications, are here presented in a unified transliteration following current scholarship and accompanied by new translations and a philological commentary. In addition, the volume contains extensive indices of persons, places and deities.
