Die Kunsthalle Bremen

The collection of the Kunsthalle Bremen comprises superb works of European painting and sculpture from the Middle Ages to the present day, as well as photograph and media art and one of the most important prints collections in Germany. The new museum guide presents 150 masterpieces of the collection in color and with commentaries on the works. "... For some, this House here will open their eyes for a lifetime" wrote Rainer Maria Rilke about the Kunsthalle Bremen in 1902. The Kunstverein zu Bremen, as the private sponsor of the Kunsthalle Bremen, has assembled a rich collection during the nearly 190 years of its history. Pieces range from Masolina da Panciale and Albrecht Durer up to Nam June Paik and James Turrell. In addition to superb works of European painting and sculpture from the 16th to the 21st century, it comprises photographs and media art as well as one of the most important prints collections in Germany. The book tells the vibrant story of the Museum, presenting over 150 collection masterpieces in color reproductions and with commentaries to accompany the works.
