Water is essential for the existence of life on earth. It is not only the requirement of human beings alone but also plays a vital role in agricultural ecosystem. Plants are mainly composed of water (75% to 95%) as they require vast amount of water for their day to day biological processes. Water is used by plants along with carbon dioxide in order to form sugars and composite carbohydrates. It acts as a cooling agent in plants and also supplies nutrients to various parts of plants for various biochemical processes. It also acts as a solvent with unique biochemical properties like high heat of vaporization, high dielectric constant and high surface tension. All these unique properties of water make it a suitable solvent for dis-solving ions, minerals and different molecules. One of the most widely affecting factors on global basis for the production of crop is "WATER". Its availability is one of the major limitations for plants as it acts as main component for the photosynthesis process which is the key process for sustaining life on earth. The condition that arises due to scarcity of water in plants is known as "DROUGHT STRESS".
