The lakes and other aquatic ecosystems, with their components are directly or indirectly affected by pollutants linked to human activities, namely: industry, sewage and agricultural drainages. Most of the drainage waters contain pesticides, fertilizers, effluents of industrial activities, runoffs and sewage effluents that supply water bodies and sediment with huge amounts of inorganic anions and heavy metals. Manzala and Burullus Lakes are two of the most important Deltaic Lakes in Egypt. These lakes are affected by anthropogenic activities, degradation and deposition, the accumulation of dead aquatic plants and vegetation remains. The areas of these lakes were declined as a result of these reasons and more. The present book is aiming at the following: 1) Throw light on the types of polluted waters coming into Manzala and Burullus lakes, different plant taxa inhabiting the water and banks of the two lakes, 2) Find out how different types of polluted water affect the physical and chemical characteristics of waters and sediments of the two lakes and mapping different pollutants distributed within the two lakes using GIS technique, 3) eutrophication state in both Lakes.
