Despite a huge amount of efforts in terms of policies, legislations and programs, large number of children in India remains unprotected. These policies and programs have roots in Britain's jurisprudence. Hence this paper based on 'review of literature' and 'document analysis' compares approaches, processes and policies of child protection adopted by these countries in the last two decades. The research finds that policy and legislative framework of both the countries have many similarities; however procedural framework, service delivery structures and guidelines of both the countries differ. The Child Protection system in India has been successful in some areas namely among adopting preventive and integrative approaches to child protection. However the study argues that, the Indian child protection system needs to be strengthened with clear guidelines, monitoring mechanism and the need for clarity regarding accountability of each stakeholder. There is more to do but there is the potential to eliminate and prevent child abuse and violence against children in India.
