In 1961 and during the decade of its independence from British rule, Guyana was lucky to have Cheddi Berret Jagan as prime minister. Ousted by external agencies and the chicanery of Forbes Burnham, Cheddi then watched as the PNC regime squandered Guyana's resources and sent thousands of Guyanese abroad in hope of a better life.
