The wild horses on our Western ranges trace their beginnings to the horses brought to the New World by Spanish explorers. The bands increased with the coming of the automobile, as many horses that were no longer needed were released to run wild. Many were killed for dog and cat food. This is the story of one wild stallion and his mares in the dangerous days before they were protected by federal law.
