The book, Audience Perception of Sexual Contents in Nigerian Home Videos is a book born out of a Bachelor of Arts Thesis. The idea for this work came as a result of increasing number of explicit portrayals of sex featured in the mass media. The study was carried out to find out what adults think about the exposure of adolescents to these explicit portrayals in the media and to further find out the extent to which they believe sex scenes should be featured in movies. A survey was carried out in four Local Governments in Ogun State, Nigeria and results showed that audiences consider sexual contents as bad and irrelevant in most cases and that its negative influence outweighs its positive because adolescents might observe, learn and imitate sexual acts they watch in movies. Findings show that adolescents should be guided from been exposed to sexual contents in movies through parental guidance, counselling, and proper education on how to discipline themselves to follow movie ratings religiously. The book can serve as a basis for further studies especially in the area of media literacy and the need for audiences especially young people to be guided when viewing media contents.
