Assessing Community Participation Trends

"Community participation implies consultation and working with and not for people" Don't do anything for people that they can do for themselves" - Burkey (1993) The introduction of a democratic government in SouthAfrica brought about opportunities for public participation for all South Africans. This callwas accompanied by promulgation of legislation, which encouraged community participation in governance and policy making.An evaluative research method was followed in which data was gathered through questionnaires and focus group discussions. The study was comprised of seventy respondents. It is structured into five chapters.
