Art of Wagnis

The volume is based on a three-day conference with the same title held at Iwalewahaus, University of Bayreuth, from December 4 to 6, 2015. The conference was funded by the DFG (German Research Found- ation). It dealt with the German filmmaker, theatre director and performance artist, Christoph Schlingensief, his long-term engagement with the German composer Richard Wagner's oeuvre, and his fascination with the African continent. The book contains articles by academics from various fields (literature studies, musicology, religious studies, art studies, anthropology, theatre studies), artistic contributions from the visual and performance arts, and interviews with contemporary witnesses of Schlingensief's pro- duction for the Bayreuth Festival.
