Animal models are used in periodontology to Study the pathogenesis of periodontal diseases and various treatment modalities, the inability to examine initiation and progression of periodontal disease and to access certain therapies in human has led to a great interest in the use of animal models in periodontal research, where possible the results of these studies are compared with results from human studies.
