Text in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and German. This book limits itself to the Brazilian part of the Amazon, to be specific, to the federal states Amazonas and Para. The focus lies on the rivers Rio Negro, Solimoes and Amazon, the cities Manaus and Belem, the river island Marajo and the rich variety of species of black Jaguar all the way to Perereca Verde (= Green Frog). Amazon has a total surface area of 6.5 million square kilometres, of which 4 million belong to Brazil. The Amazon River has its source in the Andes in Peru and is called Maranon there. In Brazil, the river initially bears the name of Solimoes. As soon as it reaches the Rio Negro River in the vicinity of Manaus, it is called Amazon. The river is over 7000 km long. Some of the Amazon's tributaries are about 1500 km long.
