Al-Maqr?z?'s al-?abar ?an al-ba?ar

This volume contains the edition and translation of the chapter of al-Maqr?z?'s al-H?abar ?an al-ba?ar dealing with Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Franks, and Goths. This chapter is, for the most part, an almost exact reproduction of Ibn ?ald?n's Kit?b al-?Ibar, from which al-Maqr?z? derived material from many other sources, including prominent Christian sources such as Kit?b Hur??iy??, Ibn al-?Am?d's History, and works by Muslim historians like Ibn al-A??r's K?mil. Therefore, this chapter of al-H?abar ?an al-ba?ar is a continuation of the previous Arabic historiographical tradition, in which European history is integrated into world history through the combination of Christian and Islamic sources.
