Research Paper from the year 2015 in the subject Veterinary medicine, , language: English, abstract: The study was conducted from December 2014 to April 2015 aimed to determine the prevalence and types of urinary bladder lesions of local and exotic breeds of male cattle slaughtered at one of the recognized Debre Zeit abattoir. The urinary bladders of 325 male cattle were removed, inspected and opened to detect gross lesions. The prevalence of urinary bladder lesions was found to be 6.5% (21/325). Chronic cystitis was the most frequent finding and account 66.7% (14/21) of the total urinary bladder lesions, while acute cystitis was verified in 33.3% (7/21) of the cases. Regarding to the breeds, the prevalence of 6.1% (18/297) and 10.7% (3/28) were found in local and exotic, respectively. Out of 21urinary bladder lesions, 14 cases were diagnosed as chronic cystitis while 7 cases were acute cystitis. The lesions of chronic cystitis were variable and categorized as uncomplicated, proliferative, hypertrophied, dilated, and emphysematous and that of acute cystitis were hemorrhagic and purulent. Regarding histological examination point of view from the total 21 cases inflammatory lesions were (14%) while carcinoma was present in (86%) patients The occurrence of urinary bladder lesion was not statistical association with breed, age categories and body condition (p>0.05,) of the animal. Finally, conclusive remarks and recommendations on future areas of research are forwarded.
