In this wide-ranging and important book, Stephen Howe evaluates the changing ways in which, arising out of the experience of Empire and decolonisation, more general ideas about imperialism, nationalism and development grew throughout the twentieth century. He traces the attitudes and activities of the groups and individuals involved in the anticolonialist movement.
